RIP + TAN Feature: New Moon in Gemini

The first official month of the summer season, June is usually filled with all kinds of fun opportunities. Interestingly enough, this year it also coincides with a new moon in Gemini, which Danielle Beinstein, Los Angeles astrologer and meditation guide, told us is also about new experiences and discoveries. Here she explains a little bit more about about this adventurous new cycle. If you live in the Los Angeles area or are planning a visit, be sure to check out one of Danielle’s New Moon Circle events in Venice. XXJKE

Danielle Beinstein:  Gemini is the curious networker, full of wit, charm, and ideas as it moves from one scene to the next. It’s known as The Twins, able to play both sides with equal aplomb. This New Moon involves all four mutable signs: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. These signs adapt, acclimating to whatever circumstances they’re in. With Gemini’s ruler, Mercury (planet of communication), now direct in fixed, earthy Taurus, we should be careful not to overcommit. Our words continue to have weight, so let’s pause before committing, choosing heartfelt inspired action over fear and insecurity.

Options, this New Moon is all about options. We may feel scattered, pulled in various directions and overwhelmed. It may be challenging to pin down what is next or what is real. Things may feel surreal or unstable. We may feel disillusioned, disoriented, or confused. But herein lies the opportunity, the gift. How can we adapt, juggling all that’s in front of us, while committing to what has value and weight? What interests us, peaks our curiosity? Can we follow it without attachment to outcome, rooting ourselves in the moment of discovery itself? Can we ground in the here and now and trust our inner knowing, embracing uncertainty as a teacher? And can we maintain our faith, knowing that everything that happens to us, ultimately happens for us?

Gemini is a joy-filled, delightful sign. Play, learn, socialize, move about, have fun. Be in the moment—it’s always where the magic is.

FULL MOON in Sagittarius

artwork by Savannah KIng

SAGITTARIUS Full Moon | Sagittarius is the explorer, the wisdom seeker, the story weaver, forever in search of new lands, literally and/or metaphorically. This Full Moon, conjunct Mars retrograde and opposite the witty, curious, chatty Sun in Gemini and Venus in earthy, weighted Taurus packs a punch. Seemingly frustrated by our lack of forward movement (4 planets retrograde still), we may feel the desire to preach or "tell it like it is." But there are many sides to a story, and righteousness, while sometimes admirable, rarely leads to deeper connection (Donald Trump was born during a Sagittarius Full Moon). There is a strong divide in the sky, a you vs. me mentality reigns supreme. Where in our lives are we determined to be right, no matter the cost? What if we reframed our position, spun it from another view? What are the stories we're telling ourselves about who and what we are, the possibilities of our lives and our values? And how can we continue to adapt, recognizing that certainty is an illusion, born from fear? "Life will be a great and continuous unfolding," Cheryl Strayed wrote. What's the latest chapter?

Insight by Danielle Beinstein and The New Moon Circle

Rip + Tan Feature /// New Moon in Taurus

The last New Moon in Aries beckoned us to venture into the unknown, as Danielle Beinstein put it. An astrologer, meditation guide and spiritual advisor, she is talented when it comes to explaining what we should take from these special moons. This time, with a New Moon in Taurus—and a whopping five planets in retrograde—Danielle calls on us to assess the people we have become. We think about spring as a time of rebirth, but it’s also important to be introspective and notice how we’re treating our bodies and minds. Danielle—who leads women’s circles and cofounded New Moon Circle—poses some interesting questions, which I hope you take the time to think deeply about. Enjoy! XXJKE

Danielle Beinstein: Taurus is the gardener, the farm-to-table cook, the builder honing his craft over time. Sensual and earthy, it’s interested in what can be seen, felt and touched. This New Moon offers us a moment to reassess our current reality, especially with five planets in retrograde, including Mercury conjunct. It’s also part of a grand trine in earth, making soft aspects to transformative Pluto in Capricorn and beneficial Jupiter in Virgo (both retrograde as well), urging us to pause and integrate our values before moving forward.

Retrogrades are not bad, despite the cultural insistence otherwise. They’re simply an opportunity to reevaluate, rethink and revise. With this much of the sky appearing in reverse (Mars and Saturn are also retrograde in Sagittarius), we’re being asked to take another look at our relationship to the physical world.

Have you ever had the experience of revisiting a painting or landscape (or person) years after your first encounter only to find the effect has changed? It’s not the thing (or person) itself, but our perspective. What we see is different, because we’re different.

Or sometimes, the opposite occurs. Upon reacquaintance, we realize we’ve lost something along the way. Experience changes and wisens us, yes, but it can also pull us farther from our essential selves.

This New Moon asks that we take the time to notice the people we’ve become.

Where have we forgone pleasure and delight, ignoring simple needs and desires in favor of more pressing and immediate demands? How are we relating to our worldly possessions or lack thereof? Are we enjoying what we do have, grateful or are we consumed with what’s yet to manifest, running ragged on a proverbial treadmill? And how are we relating to our bodies? What are they revealing to us about our inner state? Are we loving them, or enslaving them in an effort to adhere to some external standard? And finally, are we taking in our own beauty, rooting ourselves in self-care practices that heal, nourish and sustain?

This is the time to rework or revisit what’s already been established, what’s already in existence, experiencing it with fresh eyes, hearts and hands. Set intentions, ground in the everyday and see what unfolds from there. After all, everything begins with us.

Talisman

One of the best parts of my job is creating custom pieces that become a part of people's lives. I was honored to to work with my friend and muse, Danielle Beinstein, to transform her gold name plate into a set of rings that carry a special meaning to her.

"A few months ago I sent the insanely talented@savannahkingjewelry a gold nameplate, asking that she transform it into a ring. She asked me what I wanted it to remind me of, what theme was present in my life and I responded strength of heart. This is what she came back with. I've felt they're potency ever since I first put them on in back in February. And I wear them every day. Thank you @savannah.l.king - you inspire me every day." Danielle
